This past weekend we sent some of our brothers down to Orlando, Florida to attend the annual Kappa Sigma Leadership Conference. This was the biggest gathering of Kappa Sigs in history with over 2,000 undergraduates attending including the guys over at @kappasigmasfsu where we went to universal with! This weekend was a historical one with such a great turn out. Kappa Sigma is now the official largest Fraternity in the World.
“I look back the past 3 years and see a torrent of ‘first times’. That first day away from home. The first time on the Point Grey Campus and Totem Residence. The first time trying to pronounce q’ələχən (I believe it is pronounced ‘callahan’). First day Imagine Day. First day of classes. First Finals.. Oddly enough, we think that these ‘first time’ moments happen once during our college careers. However, the more I went through college and life, new experiences were around every corner and obstacle.
Flashback to my first day of pledging, or perhaps one of the most interesting days of my life. I decided to get out of my comfort zone and do something that high school me would have never imagined to do. I pledged Kappa Sigma in 2013 and had a mixture of feelings as well as a ton of questions. Amongst them all, I asked myself everyday (I still do these days): what am I doing here? In all honesty, I couldn’t figure it out for the longest time. Was it the social scene of the Greek life? Was it the network of influential alumni and people associated with Epsilon-Epsilon? Or was it something more profound than any of these?
